Astunning Ford Escort cabriolet owned by Mark Keeble, of Silver End, near Witham, has been acclaimed the best customised car in Britain.
Mark, a 40-year-old builder, won the coveted Autoglym Best in Britain trophy at the International Styling and Tuning Show at Donington circuit, Leicestershire, over the weekend (April 7/8).

Mark Keeble described his award as his 'best so far'. |

After receiving his award, Mark said: “I’m over the moon – I can’t believe it. There was some really strong competition. I have been showing the car for three years and won about 20 awards, but this is the best by far.”
He revealed that he had spent about £40,000 turning the 1991 convertible into an Autoglym winner. Among the many modifications are a bodywork kit, one-off customised blue paintwork which wowed the crowds at Donington, “air” suspension, and chromed wheels sourced from the United States.
There are no rear seats, and in their place is a stereo system with no fewer than 29 speakers.
“My wife Elaine, who gives me great support, thinks I am addicted to the car. I must admit, I spend any spare pennies on it.”
Autoglym Sales Director David Rogers said: “Mark’s car is a marvellous example of the art of customising a car. It is a very worthy winner.”
With the Escort being a show car, Mark’s everyday transport is a van. “Yes, I’m a white van man!” he admitted. | |
