A rare 1937 Jaguar SS100 Open Sports won the European Open class at the Pebble Beach Concours event in California last month. The beautiful two-seat roadster scored a seldom-awarded perfect 100 points at the famous annual concours event. It was one of only three European-owned cars to win one of the 28 classes.
The SS100, owned by Robin and Alison Green of Norwich, Norfolk, was presented at Pebble Beach by Jaguar specialists, JD Classics, who recently completed a full two-year restoration of the car.
Carl Moss of JD Classics said: “Winning at the world’s foremost concours competition is the very best way to cap two years of dedicated and painstaking restoration work. When we first saw the car, we knew we had a huge challenge on our hands: even the chassis itself was twisted. But we achieved what we set out to do, which was to make it the best example of a Jaguar SS100 in the world. And to win on our very first outing to Pebble Beach makes it all the more special for us.”
JD Classics laboriously prepared the car before it left England last month and, once in Pebble Beach, California, repeated a rigorous daily preparation and detailing regime. Just as it has on every restoration project for the last 22 years, JD Classics used Autoglym products to prepare this treasured vintage Jaguar for the toughest of expert inspections.
“We have always used Autoglym products because they offer an exceptional and consistent quality of finish,” continued Moss. “We are experts in what we do but we also need to use the best tools and products in our work. Since we started presenting at concours events around five years ago, we’ve paid further attention to ensuring we use the finest products and have always insisted on using only Autoglym. Its HD Wax, in particular, leaves a phenomenal gloss finish and we know it gives superior protection from the elements for the all-important paintwork on the rare and valuable cars we present.”
The 1937 Jaguar SS100’s next concours outing will be at the Classic Motor Show at the NEC in Birmingham, 13-15 November.
