As part of our commemorative bucket competition, we invited the Autoglym community to share the cars they’re proudest of, with a handful of lucky winners having their pride and joy featured on our 2026 bucket design.
We caught up with one of our winners, Aiden, to find out more about his car.
Some cars are bought after months of searching, careful planning and endless research. Others come along when you least expect them and you have to move fast.
For Aiden, that’s exactly how he ended up with his 1970 Mercedes-Benz W114 Coupe.

MARKETPLACE HAS IT ALL
Aiden had been looking for an old Mercedes for a few years when the right car suddenly appeared on Facebook Marketplace. It had been advertised for less than 10 minutes when Aiden spotted it and he wasn't about to let someone else get there first. He quickly organised the cash, found a trailer and made sure he was on his way before anyone else could beat him to it.

"FUEL ISSUES"
The Mercedes came with what was described as “fuel” issues. As it turned out, the problem was a whole lot simpler than expected; it just needed a fresh set of spark plugs.
Two years later, the Mercedes has become a very different car from the one Aiden first brought home. He's added air suspension and billet wheels, while the interior has been retrimmed to give the classic Mercedes a fresh, custom feel without losing its old-school character.

THERE IS ALWAYS ROOM FOR ONE MORE
For Aiden, though, the best memory with the car will always be the moment he bought it. After spending years looking for an old Mercedes, finding one that caught his eye and then having to race to secure it made the purchase even more memorable.
And while the W114 Coupe has clearly earned its place in Aiden's garage, there’s another car that he'd love to add to the collection; a FD RX-7.
When it comes to music, there’s no single soundtrack for Aiden's drives. It depends on the car and his mood, but Kanye is usually a safe bet.

FROM ONE CLASSIC TO ANOTHER
Aiden's first car was a Toyota TF Rodeo, which he picked up for just $200; a far cry from the classic Mercedes that sits in his garage today.
From a $200 Rodeo to a beautifully styled 1970 Mercedes-Benz Coupe, Aiden's car journey is a reminder that sometimes the best cars aren't the ones you plan for. They're the ones you have to move quickly to make your own.
Thanks Aiden, we hope you have many more memories with your 1970 Mercedes-Benz Coupe.
