COOKIE POLICY

LAST UPDATED: 25th September 2018

This Cookies Policy explains what cookies are and how and why we use them on our autoglym.com, lifeshine.com, knowledgecentre.lifeshine.com, autoglymprofessional.com, myautoglym.com and guarantees.lifeshine.com (our Websites).  Please read the table below which explains which cookies are used on each of our Websites.

You can also read more about the personal information we collect and use in our Privacy Notice which can be found on each of our Websites.

You can see when this Cookies Policy was last updated at the top of the page.

What is a cookie?

A cookie is a small file of letters and numbers that is sent to your browser and stored on the hard drive of your computer (or internet enabled device) when you visit a website.

Our Websites use cookies to distinguish you from other users of our Websites. This helps us to provide you with a good experience when you use our Websites.

Our Websites use different types of cookies for different purposes – we use 'necessary' cookies so that our Websites operate efficiently and securely and 'preferences' cookies to remember your preferences when you visit our Websites, so that you enjoy a better experience when you visit our Websites.

We use 'statistics' cookies to improve our Websites and we and other companies use 'marketing' cookies to provide you with offers and advertising which we and they think will be of interest to you based on the websites you visit.  You can find more information about 'necessary', 'preferences', 'statistics' and 'marketing' cookies in the 'What cookies do we use?' section below.

Cookies set by us (Autoglym, a brand of Altro Limited) are called "first party cookies".  Cookies set by parties other than us, such as Facebook, Google or YouTube, are called "third party cookies". Third party cookies enable third party features or functionality to be provided on or through our Websites (like personalised advertising, social media plug-ins, interactive content and analytics). The companies that set these third party cookies can recognise your computer both when you use it to visit one of our Websites and also when you use your computer to visit other websites.  We also use some third party cookies to power the e-commerce sections of our Websites including Magento's cookies which provide shopping basket and check-out services.

What cookies do we use?

Our Websites use first party and third party cookies for several reasons.  The cookies that we use on our Websites fall into the following groups:

Necessary - some cookies are required for technical reasons in order for our Websites to operate – normally, we need your consent to use cookies, but we can use these types of cookies without your consent, because they are essential to the operation of our Websites.  You can disable these types of cookies by disabling them using your internet browser or operating system settings, but our Websites will not work properly if you choose to disable them.

Preferences - we use some cookies to remember your preferences in order to improve your experience of using our Websites – this includes cookies to remember whether or not you consent to the use of different types of cookies we use (e.g. 'preference', 'marketing' and 'statistics' cookies).

Marketing - these cookies enable us and other companies to track and target the interests of our Website users in order to build a profile about you and send you offers and advertisements which we and they think will be of interest to you based on your visits to our Websites and other websites.

Statistics – these cookies provide information about visitors to our Websites including the number of times you visit our Websites, how long you spend on our Websites, the pages you visit etc. This enables us to understand how effective our Websites are.

You can find more detail about the types of cookies which are used on each of our Websites, who sets them, what they do and how long they last for in the table in the table below.

You can find more details about the types of first and third party cookies served through our Websites and the purposes they perform in the table below:

Email tracking

Cookies are not the only way to recognise or track visitors to a website.  We may use other, similar technologies from time to time, like web beacons (sometimes called "tracking pixels" or "clear gifs").  These are tiny graphics files that contain a unique identifier that enable us to recognise when someone has visited our Websites or opened an e-mail that we have sent them.  Some emails that we send you have no tracking in at all e.g. service emails with invoices attached. Other emails we send we put in tracking so that we can tell how much traffic those emails send to our Website, whether the user has opened and clicked on the email, which we can track to an individual level. We rarely use the latter information at a personal level, rather we use it to understand open and click rates on our emails to try and improve them. Sometimes we do use the personal information e.g. to re-email people who didn't click the first time. We will only contact you with marketing communications if you have provided your consent or if the law allows us to.  If you want to be sure that none of your email activity is tracked then you should opt out of Autoglym's emails which you can do via the link at the bottom of every email.  Also, in many instances, these technologies are reliant on cookies or similar technology (such as clear gifs) to function properly, and so declining cookies will impair their functioning.
